Lemieux is doing a webcast on Monday at 7 PM ET. I suspect we'll find out then. I'm guessing early '80s. Something from May '81 (the other Barton?) or Summer '82 would be welcome.

They're hindered by the lack of clean boards for some of the better 80s shows, aren't they? Given that there's never been an official '84 release what would make sense is the best show from that year 10/12/84, but I doubt they have a clean enough source to produce a commercially viable disc.

I think some of the issues were the use of cassettes on the soundboard during this time. I seem to recall reading that Lemieux said that 10-12-84 has some nasty cuts or something. Seems like this era would have been perfect for the original road trips concept.

I think Dan Healy said,"no one needs to hear ever note the Grateful Dead ever played ", may be true, but not a good thing for the guy responsible for taping the shows to say ! The switch to cassettes in the 80's , to save money, were among the things that makes the era so under represented in SBs . THANK GOD for all the tapers . Their audience recordings are sometimes all we have .

From what I recall reading they began recording all shows digital around late 82. However the 80's shows have Healy's effects on Weir's voice that I think they have said are problematic for official releases.

segan63 has called every one correctly. He's says it's gonna be 8/30/80 from the Spectrum so that's what I'm goin' with. Dude is somehow always right when it comes to official releases.

Get ready for fall 1980, Philly style. This aud is great

not a terrible release from 80, actually a nice show, but there are better shows from late summer/ fall 80 to draw from...the other issue is the by doing just 8-30, this will likely shelve 1980 releases, for quite a while, thus inadvertently burying great nuggets from 8-29 and 8-26, instead 5-6 disc set would give more of a bigger picture of what was going on in 80...

in the end and the biggest disappointment is the reluctance to clean up and release any of the acoustic electric shows, free 10-10-1980...

Skobud, Thanks, but I've no inside knowledge. Just trying to compile the hints/thoughts from this board and others. We'll find out if it's 8/30/80 soon, I guess.

I will actually be going into the Robert Hunter Boston show tonight at the time of Lemieux's Ustream, so I will be the last to know what DaP 8 is going to be. Ha!

Would be worth it for the Jack Straw alone.

They took down a thread that had a bit of speculation in it. Rumor was 80s or 90s era release. Given mix problems in some of the mid-80s stuff, I'd guess very early or late 80s. My gut says 80 or 81. Also, I figure it makes sense for them to take a risk with a Brent show after Veneta and the '77 box so that the show doesn't have to compete directly in the minds of purchasers.

So I get an email yesterday saying that my DP 8 order has been cancelled.....I call dead.net and 1) they tell me that there aren't enough DP 8's so that's why I got cancelled and 2) they say that my card hasn't been charged yet anyway which is totally false since I paid for the subscription and it was taken out of my account last November. So now I am awaiting a call back from someone at GD.....what a shit show. Man, this is the last time I order a subscription from these yahoos. This sucks bad....what a crock.

This seems really odd. They didn't sell 13,000 subscriptions so all subscribers should get a copy. I guess i could see how this might happen if you were buying a single copy, but even those aren't available yet.

This is strange...I see no mention of Vol. 8's release anywhere.

Don't condemn them yet. I had a bad disc on one of my subscription discs and after emailing them, they shipped out a replacement pronto with minimal hassle.
